This vibrant red feather headdress is from Tikar in the Cameroon Grasslands. It was probably worn by palace dancers during celebrations and funerals. The red feathers are the tail feathers from two different types of African gray parrot, one pure red and the other with black tips. The mechanics of the piece are intriguing as it closes in on itself when the ring is pulled from the back, making it easy to carry and store. It measures 29" in diameter. Mid-20th century. #7004 SOLD |
