Apothecary vessel
Mangbetu People, D.R. Congo
5" (12.7 cm) high by 3" (10 cm) wide
Early to mid 20th century
Ex. William Siegmann collection

It is common for vessels from the Mangbetu to have figurative elements; much more rare for them to be of geometric design. This one has incised lines and dots on the neck with a ridged bulbous body. See Burssens, Mangbetu, African Court Art from Belgian Private Collections, 1992, 74, 49 and 50.
