Dance mask
Guatemala
Wood
8" (20 cm) high by 6.5" (16.5 cm) wide
Late 1800s
The eyebrows, eyelashes, hair and moustache show
remnants of black paint, while the teeth have traces of white. His curly
side-parted hair and long sideburns were characteristic of the Spaniards
depicted in these dances. His nose has been roughly restored and there is some surface loss on the left edge and eyebrow. A crack on the chin has been stabilized with resin.
