Vishnu figure
Nepal
Copper alloy
18th century or much earlier
5 1/8″ (13 cm) high, 2 1/4″ (5 cm) wide

A well-venerated copper statue of Vishnu, shown holding his four attributes: a club for divine power, a wheel symbolizing the sun, a conch signifying the primordial sound, and the lotus, which represents purity and perfection. His garments were gracefully rendered, especially the beautiful pattern of the dhoti on the reverse.
A tag in the base indicates that it was purchased in Kathmandu in 1969; it is from the collection of an unknown archaeologist.
