Vase
Paris, France
Wood, eggshell, lacquer
13" (33 cm) high by 5" (12.7 cm) wide at base
Early 20th century
This eggshell and lacquer technique originated in Japan, but this vase could have been made in Paris, France, where artisans worked in this manner in the first half of the 20th century. Black lacquer coats the inside of the vase halfway down, then the dessicated wood can be felt. There are two small flakes and small areas touched up with paint. Please see photos.
