This is a glorious antique Turkoman pendant called a Chapragy changa. It was worn by women to show their social and marital status and is one of a pair worn around the neck, connected by a chain. It has been beautifully strung on crown-knotted cord with an old faceted carnelian stone at the closure. Carnelian was believed to be protective and also to bring happiness. The pendant measures 4.5" square; top to bottom with dangling segments it is 9" long. The braided cord is 16" in length. Silver with some gilding. 19th century pendant.  #N217  $800
