Sesame seed storage box
Zelkova (elm wood), cedar, brass
8.5" (21.5 cm) high, 9.5" (24 cm) wide
Late 19th to early 20th century
This is the smallest of three sizes of Korean storage boxes used for grains and seeds, and would likely be used for sesame seeds. The panels are made of zelkova wood, while the legs and lid are of insect-resistant cedar. The brass latch has some incised floral designs.
