Kali is the symbolic destroyer of evil and the Goddess of Time and Change. She is worshipped to remove negative tendencies, which hinder spiritual progress and material prosperity. Kali, also known as Kalika, is the Hindu goddess associated with eternal energy. The name Kali means "black" but has, by folk etymology, come to mean "force of time (kala)." Kali is represented as the consort of god Shiva. Here she stands with four arms holding a trident, a battle-axe, a lotus and a bowl or skullcap. She has small tusks carved on her mouth and her hair rises in flames. She is adorned with a necklace of skulls and it is said that a snake forms her breast band.
