Buddhist keman, Japan
Gilded bronze
11.75" (29.2 cm) high, 6 1/8" (15.5 cm) wide
Meiji Period
Keman were hung from temple beams as decoration in front of the enshrined Buddha statue. Peonies and the traditional knotted rope adorn this one. There are some small areas of green encrustation on the hanging pendants and a few of the wires have recently been replaced.
