Grappling Hook, Japan

Grappling hook

Meiji Period
Made from one piece of iron that is split and hammered to form the hooks, this was used to hoist a bucket from a well or possibly to secure a boat. In earlier times, these kaginawa were used by Samurai to scale walls or hang their armor while camping.
