Beaded necklace
Naga people, Nagaland, Northeastern India
Small trade beads, brass, string
Late 19th - early 20th century

A graceful necklace of small yellow glass trade beads beads looped into a brass amulet from the Naga people of Nagaland, Northeastern India. The shape of this "fish tail" chest ornament is said to imitate a cut conch shell and was worn by warriors. A lovely example, it possesses a smooth patina from decades of wear. The inner circumference, as tied, is 32" (81.2 cm) and the pendant is 4" (10 cm) long.
