Asian Tribal Art - Pitcher, Marlik, Iran


A small burnished pitcher with long graceful spout comes from the Marlik region of the
Gohar valley in Gilan province, Iran. Historical objects unearthed from Gohar Roud (Marlik) in 1961 indicate that the territory was once a center of art which influenced the entire Middle East. This piece measures 7.5” long by 4” high. The top half of the raised vertical bar where the handle would be has been removed - please see photo below. Circa 12-10th century B.C.
