Masonite panel, iron base
21 (53.4 cm) by 7 (17.8 cm) by .5 (1.4 cm) inches
An enigmatic press mold made by the American sculptor David Best, who worked in porcelain for a time and would lay slabs of clay on this carved Masonite board to create patterned raised surfaces, which he would then incorporate into sculptural pieces. One side does appear to have white remaining from the porcelain. It is carved on both sides and is shown in two different lighting conditions.
