An exceptional woman’s jacket from the Kauer people of South Sumatra.
Jackets like this were worn only by young unmarried women at special
ceremonial occasions. On the bodice are two panels with mirrors called
cermuk, which are small pieces of either lead or glass attached
to the surface of the cloth by embroidery. Above those panels are
nassa shells sewn onto hand loomed indigo fabric on the front and back.
