From the series of 74 prints illustrating figures from the Suikoden (The Water Margin), a Japanese adaptation of the 14th century Chinese novel, the Shihu zhuan. This print shows Hanzui, a robber/magician, fending off an onslaught of 'divine soldiers' conjured up to destroy him by Kōdesei, and enemy general. Rocks fly in the air as Hanzui crouches in self-defense.

This is the second edition of two created of this scene by Kuniyoshi, with demons in brown outline, devoid of color.
