Large food bowl
Tami Islands, Huon Gulf, Papua New Guinea
Wood, lime in-fill
30 by 12 by 4 inches (76 by 30 by 10 cm)
Early to mid-20th century
This large food bowl exhibits a pleasing asymmetry in the raised relief carving of the two spirit faces at either end, both of which feature sharply pointed noses. The walls of the bowl are relatively thin, and the two figures at the sides bear a subtle glossy patina from use.
