This graceful chiwara headdress is from Bambara, Mali. These
antelope headdresses are worn during ceremonial dances to commemorate
Tyi Wara, a mystical creature that gave humans the knowledge of corn
cultivation. This piece has a dark patina, pierced ears and nose, and a
repaired tip of the left horn. A hole runs down from the top of the head
through the base. Ex private collection, Texas.
