African Tribal Art - Mask, Dan, Ivory Coast/Liberia

Home | African Tribal Art Gallery

This arresting mask is from the Dan people of Liberia/Ivory Coast. Even with a very eroded surface, the finely carved features are apparent. Tar or pitch still clings in places, especially on the upper lip, and remnants of hair plugs dot the lower perimeter of the face. Please see multiple views below; high resolution photos are available. Ex Private collection, Paris; ex Adrian Schlag, Brussels; ex Alan Varela, San Francisco.  #9118  Price upon request.
