African Tribal Art - String cache-sex, Kirdi, Cameroon
Home | Archive | Main Gallery
This simple and elegant cache-sex is from the Kirdi tribe of Northern Cameroon/Eastern Nigeria. A cascade of white string that has been tied and tipped with ochre earth falls from a knob of similarly coated string. A loop was fashioned at the top through which a belt would have passed to hold it on the wearer’s waist. It stands 22” high and has six very small blue beads on a string that would have originally been hidden under the mud. Mid-20th century. #3098 SOLD |
