Art of the Americas - Maximon figure, Guatemala

Home | Americas Gallery

A large and startling Maximon figure from Guatemala. He is crafted of a composite face, hands and feet, with a stuffed cloth body. He sits in a solid hand-crafted wood chair with old metal repairs and measures 24" high by 11" wide. In his hand he holds a rolled piece of paper with "Plupe Solbal San Bernardino, Such." written in script. A thick leather hat sits on his head, with surface loss evident on his face and two fingers. Please see multiple views below. Early to mid-20th century.  #1626  $2000
