Art of the Americas - Standing stone figure, Mezcala, Mexico


A standing stone figure from the Mezcala culture, Mexico. These were buried with the dead in observance of an ancestral tradition. It measures 7” high and comes mounted on a custom base. The left leg has been broken and possibly painted - the color on the broken area is more bluish than the olive green of the exterior surface of the stone. Collected in Mexico 1950 or before by Margaret De Patta (1903-1964). 300 BC to AD 300.  #6001 SOLD
