Adi Shankara was one of the most revered Hindu philosophers and theologians from India who consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta (non dualism). He lived from 788-820 CE. Westerners who know about him perceive him as the “St. Thomas Aquinas of Indian thought" and "the most brilliant personality in the history of Indian thought." Here he sits meditatively in the lotus posture, hands meeting in anjali mudra.
