Asian Tribal Art - Coco de mer beggar's bowl
![]() |
This beggar's bowl was made from half of a coco de mer, a large nut indigenous only to the Seychelle Islands. They would occasionally wash ashore in India and Indonesia - this one was purchased in Indonesia but may very well be from India. It measures 10" long, 5" wide and has one small puncture hole that barely goes through, seen in the right photo below at about 6 o'clock. The chain is 20" long. 19th century. #1922 $675 |
