An imposing lime spatula from the Massim of Papua New Guinea. This one
has two sets of ancestral heads above what appears to be a smiling face
with wide set eyes and a moustache. They may be frigate birds, but it
certainly borders on the Escheresque. In-filled with white lime, it is
finely carved from dense hardwood and stands a full 15” on a custom
base. Pre-1930. #2321 SOLD
