This is a diminutive but powerful ancestral shrine figure is from the Lower Sepik area of Papua New Guinea. It measures 7” high, has an encrusted patina, and carved armbands, cache-sex and necklace. His ears are pierced, as is his septum, and there is a small chip on the left ear. A mysterious face is carved upside-down on his back, with a similarly pierced septum – please see photo below.
